Becoming Primitive an Overview

Becoming-Primitive-Overview-Bear-Gallagher-Cole

“Becoming Primitive” is a school of thought and training program created by Bear Gallagher Cole the Wild West Explorer. It involves elements of Survivalism, Outdoors and Wilderness Survival, Preparation, Technology, and just good old school thinking. This training and information is not geared towards hardcore survivalists or Outdoorsmen.  Bear Cole’s “Becoming Primitive” is for people who just want to be prepared for tiny shifts in life.  The kind of tiny shifts in life that can cause large changes in how we live. The core premise of “Becoming Primitive” is preparation.

You don’t need any previous training or skills to take advantage of this training.

What will you do if the power goes out? Do you have a plan for taking a hot bath when there’s no hot water? What would happen to your money and finances if the internet crashed? Could you eat for more than a week if trucks stopped delivering groceries? If not, don’t worry, by “Becoming Primitive” with Bear Gallagher Cole, you will prepare yourself for all of these possibilities and much more.

Becoming Primitive is a Short Term survival preparation methodology that prepares you for the most common emergencies and disasters.

Short Term Survival

Survivalists and Preppers aren’t all weirdos stacking toilet paper in an underground shelter somewhere. We aren’t all burying ourselves in Ammo and Explosives. Survival is quite simply thinking ahead.

In the event of an emergency like losing our Complex Fragile Systems it is likely that they will be back online at some point. The best place to start is with your Short Term survival plan. This is the most affordable preparation tactic, and one that won’t alter your entire way of living.

It is a good idea to have a Long Term survival plan as well. To learn how to live without any of the Complex Fragile Systems we rely on. However, Becoming Primitive as a course and training will focus mainly on getting you started. The training is perfect for beginning and just learning preppers that are looking for a base level of survival preparation in place for short term emergencies.

What Does Becoming Primitive Mean?

It is Ironic that our goal over the last couple hundred years has been to become less and less primitive. In most ways, especially in the United States and the Western World, we have succeeded. The society we have created is complicated, modern, forward thinking, and far from what most would call primitive. Our everyday lives depend on complex systems of electricity, transportation, internet connections, and personal devices. We can live in deserts with powerful and fairly efficient air conditioning units. We can live in harsh cold climates with heat from electricity and propane. We have made an amazing amount of progress as a species.

The most ironic thing about all of this progress however, is that most of us fail to see just how fragile our progression is.

How easy would it be to lose the everyday “Modern” tools and services that we rely on to live? How long would it take for your town to run out of gas and local grocery store deplete of it’s food stores? What will you do if internet and technology goes down and you can not access the money you have in the bank? These are important questions. Probably much more important than we allow them to seem. Much more important than our media, government, and schools allow them to be.

If our schools won’t teach it, then I will!

Sorry if I get a bit intense here. I promise, “Becoming Primitive” is not about fear mongering or worst case scenarios. I try to take a very real world and sometimes even humorous approach to sharing this information. I just need a moment to really drive home why this training matters and why it is so important.

A break down of one of our Complex Fragile Systems is not a Maybe, it is a when. Are you ready?

Complex Fragile Systems

The key concepts of the Becoming Primitive training program are focused around what I call Complex Fragile Systems. Complex Fragile Systems are things you are most likely 100% reliant on if you live in the Western World. When you find out how easy it would be for one or all of these systems to crash, I know that you will be ready to get Prepared!

Complex Fragile Systems are man made and designed complex systems that you would not be able to fix yourself if they went down.

  1. Electricity
  2. Water and Plumbing
  3. Groceries and Food Distribution
  4. Internet & Technology
  5. Communications Infrastructure
  6. Transportation

Do you control your own destiny?

Choose one of 1,000 scenarios, and I promise there are events that are powerful enough to stop your way of life for quite sometime. Natural Disasters, Extreme Weather, Solar Events and Space Weather, Volcanic Activity, War, Economic Recession, Lack of Resources – choose a card and play it. I guaranty that you will be amazed by how delicate and fragile the systems we rely on are. You will regret not learning more, and preparing, when SHTF.

I am not here to tell you how the world will end. I am not going to concentrate on Zombies or Alien Attacks. I am just going to remind you that you don’t need all of these tools to survive.

Survival is 80% thinking ahead.

Most people I ask don’t have a plan for when the water or electricity goes out to their home or city. Many people are not used to spending time outdoors, starting a fire, or learning to purify water.

Most people don’t have a plan in place for natural disasters or emergencies.

Light Bulb

Electricity

Think about it for a second. The power to your entire city is out. A disaster has taken it down. It may be restored, or there may not be power for weeks, months, even years. I am sure you can think of many ways this will affect your daily activities, but how will it affect the rest of the Complex Fragile Systems? Let’s take a look at this list again.

  1. Electricity
  2. Water and Plumbing
  3. Groceries and Food Distribution
  4. Internet & Technology
  5. Communications Infrastructure
  6. Transportation

Can you see the Domino Effect? The Electricity goes out and then all the rest of these systems follow. Most Water and Plumbing systems are reliant on electrical power the powers their pumps. Grocery freezers are dead, and food is spoiling. No internet, and nearly all technology is useless. You are going to run out of batteries at some point. The communications infrastructure goes out with no phones, email, or texting. Gas stations are reliant on power, and therefore transportation is only good for a couple tanks of gas.

The power going out has broken the whole system.

How can you prepare for a massive power outage and loss of all Complex Fragile Systems? This has happened within the last couple years multiple times all over the globe due to natural disasters and war. It could happen anywhere at anytime.

The smartest thing you can do is prepare.

Groceries and Food Distribution

One place where we have escaped being primitive the fastest, and in just the last 50 years or so, is food. We don’t need to grow our own, or kill our own. We have foods from every corner of the earth, any season we want them. Foods are bigger and more energy packed. Most of us, including myself, complain about how much work it is to go to the grocery store and walk the aisles. It’s tough right, you have to pick it, buy it, load it in the car, and then pack it in the pantry.

There is nothing more important to survival than food, water, and body temperature. Knowing how to grow, gather, and hunt your own food might be the skill that saves your life in the event of an emergency. However, in the case of a short term emergency, like losing one of the Complex Fragile Systems on which you rely thinking ahead is what will save your life.

In the Becoming Primitive training you will learn good foods to store, and ways to prepare for an emergency where you are unable to access foods from stores or markets.

At this point I think I have seen them from every possible angle, and it still never gets old. These mountains are such an important place spiritually, and I’m lucky to enjoy them. If you are ever out exploring in this part of the world, please remember these mountains are not just a place to ski, hike, ride your bike, or play. You are walking in a place with huge significance to people. This is a spiritual place, and deserves your respect and protection.
